The Nigerian giant illustrates his artistic journey with a new video.
On “Kilometre,” Burna Boy showcases his journey to success under the Afrofusion banner, which blends Afrobeats, reggae, dancehall, rap and R&B. Since winning a Grammy in the “Best International Music Album” category for his project Twice As Tall, he defines the purpose of “Kilometre” this way: “This is me talking about how far I’ve come.”
The video immerses us in an entirely futuristic atmosphere of flying cars and ultra-modern architecture. Burna Boy is running, chanting “Kilometre, Kilometre, Kilometre,” a repetitive refrain that encourages us to surpass ourselves to achieve our dreams. It’s a nice metaphor for the speed of his success. He explains that he was inspired to make the track while in a “heavenly place” in Ghana. This is surely a taste of his next project, which Burna Boy has said he plans to release this year.
